How to Make a Pony Bead Car
Step 1: Prepare Your Lacing
Start by measuring 60 inches of pony bead lacing. Then cut it to length with craft scissors.
Now fold the lacing in half, and pull it through the key ring or lobster clasp to form a lark’s head knot.
Step 2: Lay Out Your Pattern
Working on a flat surface, use the photo below to lay out your pattern in pony beads.
This is a great time to play with different color schemes.
Step 3: String the Beads
Next, string the top row of beads onto the left lacing.
Then thread the right lacing up through the beads.
Pull the lacings in opposite directions until the beads form a horizontal row just beneath the knot.
Step 4: Add the Second Row
Moving through your pattern from top to bottom, repeat Step 3 to add the second row of beads.
Step 5: Add the Third Row
For the third row, do not string the two beads on either end.
Now thread the right lacing up through beads and pull both lacings to form the horizontal row.
Next, string the remaining beads from the third row onto the lacing on each respective side.
Step 6: String the Fourth & Fifth Row
Go ahead and string all the beads from the fourth row onto the left lacing.
Then thread the right lacing up through all but two beads at the top.
When you pull the lacings taut, the beads for rows three and four will fall into place.
String all the beads to add the fifth row.
Step 7: Create the Wheels
For the left wheel, string the three beads onto the left lacing.
Now thread the left lacing through the two black beads and all the way through the left end of the row above.
Then thread the left lacing back through the first black bead of row six, and string the final two beads onto it.
Pull the left lacing over and through the black bead above it.
To add the right wheel, string the next row (three beads) onto the right lacing.
Thread the right lacing through the top black beads of the tire.
Add the final two beads and thread the lacing through the left black bead of the tire.
Almost done!
Step 8: Secure the Lacing
To secure the lacing, loop each lacing through the row above and tie them in single knots.
Trim any excess lacing near the knots with craft scissors.
